In the last earnings report, we flagged Coursera’s struggling segments. Not much has changed, except for one thing: the plat

Duolingo is Shutting Down Its Only Classroom Tool
In 2027, Duolingo is shutting down Duolingo for Schools, its free classroom tool that helped teachers track student progress and assign lessons. Coursera did the same thing last year, ending free course audits. It seemed sudden, but the signs were there. Class Central tracked the Duolingo for Schools shutdown too. And this time, the signs were all across social media platforms. Why the Shutdown? Duolingo for Schools was launched in 2015. Within a week, more than 10,000 teachers and 25,000 stud

Udemy’s Last CEO Quietly Moves On: Joins a Tax & Compliance Company as CEO
When Class Central covered the Coursera-Udemy merger completion, Hugo Sarrazin’s role was unclear. Not anymore. He’s joining Avalara, a tax and compliance company, as CEO. Here’s the thing. Neither an SEC filing nor a public post announced the departure of the 14-month CEO, which led Udemy to its first profitable year and the $2.5 billion all-stock merger. The Quiet Exit The Coursera-Udemy merger was completed on May 11, 2026. Coursera even released a completion 8-K once it was done. Sarrazin,

This afternoon, Coursera reports its first quarterly earnings since the Udemy deal closed. Yesterday, it announced a $100 million investment in LearnVector, a new AI learning company founded by Andrew Ng. LearnVector’s domain was registered exactly one month ago and somehow it’s worth $300M? It’s a single page website with five open roles in Mountain View, and a promise of a first product in early 2027. Its founder is the co-founder of Coursera and the chairman of its board. Coursera Lays Off ~150 Staff After Udemy Merger
Coursera announced job cuts on July 6, eight weeks after its merger with Udemy closed. The company didn’t say how many people were affected. The only number it gave was a cost, $8 million to $11 million. After digging around California’s website, I found that 59 people were laid off: 31 from Coursera’s Mountain View headquarters, and 28 from Udemy’s office in San Francisco. California only requires these notices for jobs in the state, so that isn’t the whole number. Based on what the two compa
